Water neutrality is becoming increasingly important as by 2050, it is predicted there will be a water shortfall of 6 billion litres in the UK. This is due to a range of factors, including an increasing population, climate change, and environmental impacts harming ecosystems and biodiversity. By achieving water neutrality, the goal is to reduce building consumption of water.
This CPD introduces water neutrality as a concept, looks deeper into the three key stages of achieving water neutrality and showcases the importance of reducing water usage as opposed to offsetting water usage. The CPD leads into a case study which showcases to the audience that by focusing on reducing water use during the refurbishment of a commercial building, it can have several direct and indirect benefits on water consumption, cost and carbon production.
The goals of the presentation and what we hope people learn include:
- How the water neutrality process can be applied to both new developments and refurbished buildings.
- A deep dive into each step, methods of carrying out each step and the benefits and drawbacks.
- A case study application verifying the benefits of adopting a water neutral approach and the range of knock-on benefits this can have on performance, cost and carbon.
