Rinnai A-rated continuous flow hot water heaters are keeping things flowing along nicely at a prestigious Club and Spa in Cheshire.

And as well as providing an unending supply of temperature-safe hot water for clients the Rinnai units are guaranteeing low running costs.

Energy savings are increased significantly over stored water heaters because Rinnai heaters operate only on demand, i.e., when the tap is turned on. This eliminates the cycle of heating and reheating the same tank of water. With a continuous flow gas water heater you also avoid the problem of cylinders becoming corroded and rusty, causing water to become contaminated.

When it came to making a choice between a continuous flow hot water system or a traditional stored system, the former won hands down in terms of practicality, efficiencies, cost and performance for Country Club and Spa which offers guests exceptional health and fitness facilities including luxurious indoor and outdoor wet areas, a selection of contemporary food and beverage offerings and a sumptuous spa.

Installed were 17 Rinnai gas fired condensing units to fulfil its massive demand for 20,000 litres per hour of safe temperature controlled hot water. Rinnai’s condensing continuous flow gas fired water heaters return the biggest energy efficiencies on the market today and users are safe in the knowledge that the hot water will never, ever run out, whatever the demand.

The 17x Rinnai units feed executive soaker showers, poolside showers and changing room showers and the installation is a clear illustration of the sea change towards de-centralised plant rooms.

A major downside to stored hot water systems is in-built at the design stage. Often capacity for hot water storage is oversized in relation to actual usage because nobody really knows what the ultimate demand will be. This, however, is not a problem with a continuous flow water heater – in many instances within this complex the water heaters are feeding the showers directly so there is no need for re-circulation around the building.

Not only does the use of decentralised water heating save energy and money, it offers flexibility, ease of installation and reduces downtime on water outage. If, for example, a hot water store should burst the whole system across the complex would be down but by utilising continuous flow water heaters in the areas where they are needed and so this nightmare scenario cannot occur.

The Rinnai units are wall hung, thereby taking up very little space and are easily accessible for service and maintenance. The heaters can be linked together to provide more than adequate coverage and in the unlikely event of one failing there is more than adequate back-up to cope with demand.

The advantages of a continuous flow hot water system over a stored one to a business such as the Country Club are manifold. When there is no demand for hot water, the system uses no energy and in terms of longevity a continuous flow heater system can have a life span in excess of 20 years;

“Rinnai’s energy efficient condensing gas fired water heaters deliver cost saving on installation, low running costs, ease of maintenance, lower life cycle costs, lower replacement costs and the high performance that will deliver the quality expected of a five star establishment such as Hale Country Club and Spa. The complete range of Rinnai continuous flow water heaters is A rated under ErP labeling directive – the only comprehensive range of continuous flow water heaters on the market to achieve this standard.”
