Building environmental and energy assessment method.

What is BREEAM?

This is an acronym for the British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, the foremost method and rating system for buildings, first launched in 1990. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation.

How does BREEAM work?

It uses established benchmarks to evaluate a buildings specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria, from energy to ecology.

It covers a wide range of environmental and sustainable issues which enable designers, developers and building managers to prove the environmental credentials of their buildings.

The latest version, BREEAM 2011, which superseded BREEAM 2008 in July 2011, can be viewed on the following link:-
