What is Solar PV?

Solar PV is short for Solar Photovoltaics, which is a popular way of generating electricity from sunshine, by converting solar radiation into direct current, using semiconductors.

How does Solar PV work?

The heat transfer takes place in solar cells containing a photovoltaic material (monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon, amorphous silicon, cadmium telluride and copper indium gallium selenide/sulphide).

Solar photovoltaic has grown rapidly in the UK and Europe due to various FIT (Feeds In Tariffs) which serve as an attractive incentive. Advancements in the technology mean that installations may be mounted on the ground or built into the rood or walls of a building. Otherwise known as building-integrated photovoltaics.
